How to go from Hyderabad to Varanasi by Trains

Hyderabad is the capital of the newly carved southern state of Telangana in India though it continues to be the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh too. If you are planning to go to the holy city of Varanasi from here, you can go by train, by airplane, or by bus or taxi according to your budget and requirements. The distance between Hyderabad and Varanasi by train route is 1611km. If you think that the one way airfare of Hyderabad to Varanasi is too high, it is better to undertake the journey by train.  Going from Hyderabad to Varanasi by trains is not only cheaper, but also more comfortable than going to Varanasi by bus or taxi.

Hyderabad to Varanasi Trains

Direct train from Hyderabad to Varanasi:

There is only one direct train between Hyderabad and Varanasi. You have to board the train from Secunderabad and get down on Varanasi junction as the train goes all the way to Patna. It is called Patna Express or SC PNBE Express and its number is 12791. This train departs from Secunderabad at 10 AM and arrives at Varanasi at 14:30 the next day. The train runs on all 7 days of the week, and the fare from Hyderabad to Varanasi is Rupees 600 for the sleeper class.

As this is the only direct train from Hyderabad to Varanasi, it is better to get your berths reserved through prior booking. This train has a pantry car attached to look after your food requirements at night. There is both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food available inside the train.

Play safe and undertake journey on reserved tickets only

There is a mad rush of passengers in this train and travelling without reservation is not advisable. You should play it safe and book your tickets online to get reserved tickets. If reserved tickets are not available on the day on which you plan to undertake the journey, it is better to pay a little more and get confirmed tickets through Tatkal booking system. It is a long 28-hour journey, and you must carry snacks and fruits along with you though these things are available on important stations along the route. If you think you cannot handle all those who enter reserved compartments on a general ticket, it is better to get a berth in 3rd AC. The fare for 3rd AC in this train is Rupees 1554 which is still just 1/3rd of the airfare between Hyderabad and Varanasi.
