What is the Difference Between ISR and Non ISR Router

The main difference between ISR and Non ISR router is that ISR router comes with additional features and the user does not have to integrate extra module or license to it, while the non ISR router is a regular router that requires extra license or module to include additional services.

Generally, a computer network is a collection of networking devices such as computers, printers, routers and switches connected together to exchange data. Moreover, a router is an essential networking device. It allows sending data among different networks.

Difference Between ISR and Non ISR Router - Comparison Summary

What is ISR

ISR stands for Integrated Services Router. It is reliable and more secure than regular routers. It also provides features to work with mobile devices, multimedia applications, and cloud computing apart from forwarding the packets to the destination. Moreover, ISR provides device virtualization and helps during hardware failures. Users can find about the features integrated to the router by referring the datasheets of that router model.

Difference Between ISR and Non ISR Router

For example, Cisco ISR allows secure cloud computing through Group Encrypted Transport Virtual Private Network. Therefore, it provides a platform for secure data transferring. It also provides a secure mobile platform for users to exchange voice, email, etc. Furthermore, Cisco ISR allows secure telecommuting. Therefore, users can work at home and makes it easier to do disaster recovering.

What is Non ISR Router

Routers that are not Integrated Service Routers are Non ISR router. These are normal, regular routers. The main purpose of using a router is to send data from one network to another network using the IP address. When the router receives a packet, it checks the IP address to find the destination. If the packet is for its own network, it forwards the packet to that specific host. If not, it forwards the packet to the other network. Furthermore, non ISR router does not have features like an ISR router. Therefore, when using these routers, the users have to buy an extra license for additional services.

Difference Between ISR and Non ISR Router

Definition

ISR is a special type of router with extra features to support effective data communication between devices. In contrast, non ISR router is a regular router that forwards data packets between computer networks.

Features

ISR router has added features for enabling cloud computing, mobile connectivity, multimedia performance and secure networking than non ISR router, in addition to forwarding the packets.

Cost

Furthermore, the ISR router is costly than the Non ISR router.

Conclusion

In brief, the router is an electronic device that allows forwarding data from one network to another based on the IP address. ISR is a special type of router. The main difference between ISR and Non ISR router is that the ISR router comes with additional features and the user does not have to integrate extra module or license to it, while the non ISR router is a regular router that requires the user to buy extra license or module to include additional services.
