A lot of English learners confuse the two terms job and work. Although both these words can refer to employment or occupation, they are used differently. Job refers to a particular employment role or position whereas work is a more general term which does not specify the role. This is the main difference between job and work. Work can be used as both a verb and a noun, whereas job is only a noun. All jobs involve work but doing work isn’t always part of a job.

A job is a paid position of regular employment. It refers to a particular employment role or position, such as teacher, chef, doctor, engineer, etc. A person can have a full-time job or a part-time job.
He had ten jobs in the past four years.
Jake got a new job.
Her new job as a teacher is exhausting.
I’m looking for a job.
He has two jobs – I’m a cook, but I also work as a newsreader.
You might have noticed from the above examples that the noun job is countable. In addition, job cannot be used as a verb.
Work – Meaning and Usage
Work is both a noun and a verb. Work refers to an activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to earn money. Work is more general than job. It doesn’t state exactly what the person’s duties or responsibilities are.

She works for Microsoft.
Mark works for a law firm.
He doesn’t answer the phone when he is at work.
I work with children with special needs.
I start work at 8 AM.
