Main Difference – Linguine vs Fettuccine

Linguine and fettuccine are two types of pasta. They are slightly different in size and shape. The main difference between linguine and fettuccine is that linguine is narrower than fettuccine. However, these differences in thickness and shape cause other differences as well. The recipes, the sauces served with these pasta all differ according to their thickness.

What is Linguine

Linguine is a type of pasta. It originated from the Genoa and the Liguria region of Italy. Linguine is typically wider and flatter than spaghetti, but narrower than fettuccine. It is about 6-9 mm wide. Since it is narrower than fettuccine, it is more delicate. It also has an oval or elliptical cross section. Linguine is made of flour and water. It can be made out of both white flour and whole-wheat flour.

The type of sauce served with the pasta depends on the size and the delicateness of the pasta; there are specific sauces or dishes that are served with linguine. Linguine is often served with thin sauces because it is delicate pasta. It works well with olive oil or tomato based sauce where individual strands can be coated equally. It is generally served with pesto or seafood.
