How to Build Self Confidence

How to Build Self Confidence

Self confidence is the feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment. Self confidence is not an inherent quality; it’s something that develops as we grow up. Some people find it difficult to develop self confidence because of personal experiences and family background whereas some suffer from low self esteem. But it’s never too late to build your confidence. That’s why we are talking about how to build self confidence in this article.

Look at Your Achievements

Think about all the things you have done in your life. Your achievements, big or small, serve as a reminder of your talents and abilities. This achievement can be getting a good mark in an exam, or sewing a dress. Write all your achievements and keep a list of them. Whenever you have achieved something, write it down on the list. Whenever you are feeling low, you can look at this list and remind yourself of your worth.

Avoid Negative Thoughts

First, identify your negative thoughts. Negative thought may sound like ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I’m going to fail’, ‘Everyone’s going to laugh at me’. You can turn these negative thoughts into positive thoughts. Think positive thoughts like ‘Yes, I can do this’ and ‘I’m going to be successful.’

Stay Away from Things that Make You Feel Bad

Associate people who make you feel good about yourself. If someone constantly criticizes you or makes negative comments about you, stay away from that person. Avoid spending time around things and places that make you feel bad about yourself.

Identify Your Talents

Everyone is good at something; so, what’s your talent? Discover your talents and abilities. Discover the good qualities in your personality. Are you a good listener? Do you have a great sense of humor? Take pride in your talents and qualities. How to Build Self Confidence

Understand Your Fears

Everyone has fears; even the most self confident person on earth is not without fears. First, understand your fears, and then you can confront them.

Stop Comparisons

If you want to be confident, then you should stop comparing yourself to others. Focus on your life, your talents, your goals, not someone else’s. When you compare yourself with someone else, you’d naturally feel that the other person is better than you. This would lead to low self-confidence.

Set Goals

Set some small and achievable goals and try to achieve them. As you continue to achieve these goals, you will start having confidence in yourself. Gradually adjust the small goals to make the larger goals achievable.
