Main Difference – Malt vs Shake

Malts and shakes are two of the most popular frozen drinks, loved by everybody. Shake or milkshake is a thoroughly shaken or blended drink made of milk, a flavoring syrup, and often ice cream. Malts are made by adding malt powder to milkshakes. Therefore, the main difference between malt and shake is the addition of malt powder; milkshakes do not contain malt powder, but malts do.

What is Malt

Malt is made by just adding malt powder to shake. Malt powder is made from a blend of malted barley, wheat flour, and evaporated whole milk. Malt powder is readily available in at any market. One or two spoonful of malt powder is enough for a single milkshake. The powder can also be sprinkled on the top of the drink for extra flavor. Malt has a slightly sour taste compared to shake.

This beverage is said to be introduced in the 1920s when a worker in a soda fountain shop tried to combine the malt powder with a milkshake. This flavor quickly turned out to be popular, and malt came to be a highly popular beverage. However, the unique flavor of malt does not go with many flavors. So, it is better to prepare malt without any other flavors.
