Motorola Droid turbo 2 Review – Features and Specifications
To end the year on a high note, the Motorola droid turbo 2 has been released with features that are better than the Moto X Pure Edition. Motorola droid turbo 2 comes with a better battery and a faster processor which is noteworthy. The screen that comes with a Quad HD resolution has also seen an improvement; Motorola boasts that it is “unbreakable.” Outside the US, this phone is referred to as the Moto X-Force. The phone is also customizable; the rear cover can be changed to a preferred color and material. In addition, the buttons and the bezels can also be customized with the use of the Moto Maker.
Design
The back is not fully curved, as in many other phones in the market. The back is a flat surface which has curves on the sides of the phone. This improves the design but compared with devices like Moto X Style it is less comfortable to hold in the hand. The SIM card has also been placed on top of the device rather than the sides. This is a good thing in a way, as in previous models the SIM card was hard to reach. The top of the device comes with a proximity sensor which is used to provide notifications according to the proximity of the user. If we put everything together, the Motorola has followed the standard design it has used in its recent models.
The aluminum alloy used on the body is more strong and durable this time thanks to the 700 series aluminum after the bend gate problem last year. This time, there comes an additional color option which is rose gold. This may be the preferred color for women.
Display
The special feature of the screen is, even if it is dropped, it is unbreakable. Even previous models like the Moto X style and Moto G 2015 have had improvements in the screen like discoloration prevention and breakage resistance respectively.
The display uses AMOLED Technology, and the size of the panel is 5.4 inches. The display has a 2K resolution at 1440X2560 with a pixel density of 544ppi. The screen comes with 5 layers which reinforce the display to counter impacts. Motorola refers to this as Shatter-Shield Technology. One of the layer shields which is called top lens can be damaged due to a fall, but other four layers will be protected from damage.
OS
The device comes with an Android lollipop 5.1.1. According to Motorola, Android Marshmallow 6.0 will be available soon.
Performance
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor which has 8 cores and packs a clocking speed of 2GHz. Four cores are Coretex-A53 which clock a speed of 1.5 GHz, and the other four are Cortex-A57 which clock a speed of 2.0 GHz. The GPU that comes with the device is Adreno 430, which is capable of playing 4K video and supporting games with high detail. This smartphone comes with built-in storage of 32GB and 64 GB variants, and the storage can be expanded to 2TB with the use of a micro SD card.
Camera
The rear camera of the device come with a dual LED flash which has a resolution of 21MP. Zero shutter is another feature which enable the capture of an image without any software delay. The camera app is also enhanced by features like Rapid Focus, panorama, and HDR capabilities. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 5MP, which comes with an LED flash to bright up low light conditions. The front-facing camera is great for capturing selfies as well.
Battery capacity
Battery life can be considered as a major strength of the phone. The battery capacity of the phone stands at 3760 mAh, which means the battery can last for a day and a half easily with moderate use. The device supports turbo charge powered by Motorola and wireless charging as well.
Apple iPhone 6S Plus Review – Features and Specifications
Although the number of improvements in this phone are not significant, they are useful and meaningful this time. The iPhone 6S Plus comes with camera improvements, processing power improvements, more RAM, and the new iOS 9 sum up the differences when compared with the previous model.
Display
The size of the display is 5.5 inches and supports a resolution of 1920X1080 pixels with a pixel density of 401 ppi. Although its Android competitors have a QHD display which has a resolution of 2560X 1440 pixels, the iPhone is still able to compete with it with its big bright display. Although Samsung generally has a sharper display, both screens are equally matched. The 1080p display may seem like it comes from 2014, but the obvious advantage over the Quad HD display is, it consumes less power from the battery. But in the future it would not be a surprise if Apple uses a Quad HD display.
Touch ID
Touch ID is fast and responsive, and this will be very useful in using Apple Pay.
3D touch
3D Touch is a highlighted feature which comes with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. When applying pressure on an app icon, two options will be made available. The options will be Pop and Peek according to the pressure applied on the icon.
A light press will bring up the result in the peek option to be activated which will give a preview while a harder press will reveal Pop that will take the user to the next level on the page. These options make the iOS a bit complicated, though. It may take a while to adapt to such functionality. The advantage of this functionality is there is no need to enter into the app to execute any task. For the time, this functionality is only available with Apple apps but it is expected that third party apps will take advantage of such a feature in the near feature. Although it does complicate the iOS, still it is fun and fast to use. It has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with the smart device.
Performance
The power under the hood is provided by the Apple’s new A9 processor. The ARM processor clocks a speed of 2GHz and uses 64-bit architecture. The RAM has also been doubled with this device which will enable a smooth application run. According to Apple, the processor packs twice the power as the A8 processor.
Camera
The major upgrade, when compared with the previous version, is clearly the camera. The rear camera has a resolution of 12 MP, which has been upgraded from 8 MP. This upgrade makes captured images to be filled with detail and consume a bit of space on the storage. In addition to a camera that can capture great images, it is also capable of capturing 4K video which is also high quality and consumes more space. This is one reason why we need to go for a high built-in storage version of the phone rather than going for the 16GB. The 64GB version will be ideal for this type of quality on the phone’s camera.
The Live photos option records 1.5 seconds after a photo has been shot which will create a fun short clip with life in it. This option also takes up space on the storage which needs to be noted. The details that are captured by the sensor are impressive and even if the image is zoomed in, the detail it produces is impressive. The images, in general, are sharp and crisp, and the colors are accurate when compared with the Samsung devices which sometime oversaturate the images. The front facing camera has seen a significant upgrade from 1.2 MP to 5MP which will be great for selfies and makes it par with Android devices.
Battery Capacity
Due to the additional feature of 3D, the hardware thickness of the phone has increased, and the battery capacity has decreased from 2750mAh to 165mAh. Battery life, when compared with the Android counterparts, was already worse and by decreasing the battery life it has become even worse.
