The pitbull terrier is a medium-sized, powerful, short-coated, solidly built breed with well-defined musculature. The body is quite long. The head is broad with a flat skull and a wide, deep muzzle. They were first introduced in the United Kingdom by crossing between old English terrier and old English bulldog. However, the dog breed is more popular in the US, thus often is referred to as American Pitbull. Pitbull terriers come in all colors and color patterns. The general life span of a pitbull terrier is about 12 years. They have small to medium sized ears and a thick, relatively short tail. This breed is known for their strength, confidence, pleasing behavior and obedience. These characteristics make them good family companions. However, the owner should do the training very carefully. It is not the best dog breed to serve as a guard dog since they show friendly behavior, even to strangers. Aggressive behavior in a pitbull is highly undesirable.

American bully is very similar to pitbull terrier dog and shares many characteristic features. This is because American bully is an extension of the original pitbull terrier. American bully is a powerful dog with A well-defined musculature and broad skull. Their body size varies from medium to large. The muzzle is short to medium and broad. The upper arms are joined to the body at an angle of approximately 35 to 40 degrees. The forelegs are short but strong and sturdy. The forelegs are connected rather wide apart. The tail is medium-sized. They have short, glossy and smooth coats that come in all colors and patterns except pattern merle. An adult American bully may weigh between 60-100 lbs and has a height of 13-20 inches. Their lifespan is around 8-12 years. These dogs are extremely friendly towards human and show gentle and pleasing behavior. Hence, they are kept as family dogs.
