Samsung Galaxy J7 Review – Features and Specifications

Samsung recently introduced its line of J series smartphones. They are namely Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. The main features of these phones include a 5 MP front facing camera which is accompanied by a selfie flash. Flipkart launched this phone in India in the month of July this year. The Indian version of the Samsung Galaxy J7 comes with a major change. The processor on the Indian version of the phone is the Octa-Core Exynos 7580 whereas the Chinese version of the same phone comes with the Snapdragon 615 Soc.

Performance

The smartphone is powered by Samsung’s very own Octa-Core Exynos 7580 System on Chip, which has a 64-bit design architecture. There are eight ARM Cortex A53 CPU, which are capable of producing 1.5 GHz speed individually.

Display

The smartphone comes with a Super AMOLED display which is 5 inches in size. The resolution of the screen is 1280X720 pixels. The pixel density of the screen is 267 ppi. The display is very much visible when exposed to direct sunlight. The colors produced by the AMOLED display are bright as well as vibrant. The viewing angle of the screen is also good. The device does not come with an ambient light sensor which would have been useful as it is able to set the screen brightness automatically according to the lighting condition on the outside.

With the help of the AMOLED screen, perfect blacks are achieved. If we compare the phone with the like of the Galaxy A7, the sharpness of the screen is a bit low as the pixel density of the screen is less. The same screen can be considered to be better than the LCD screened smartphones which have the similar price range. The Samsung Galaxy J7 also come with an outdoor mode which brightens the display for 15 minutes when being used outdoors. The display of the devices has a glossy outlook which gives way to fingerprints.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy J Series uses the same traditional design which is relevant to its smartphones. The corners are curved as with many of its smartphones. The sides are reinforced by a chrome rim. This is a typical feature which is found in the Samsung Galaxy Primes series phones. These sides use anodized CMF coating which prevents smudges and dust from sticking to the device.

The home button is typically located at the bottom of the display. On both sides of the home button, the capacitive touch buttons are available. These buttons do not have backlit features nor do they provide any feedback  when pressed. The power button on the device is located on the right on the side of the phone, and volume button is placed on the left on the side.

If we are to observe the bottom of the phone, the microphone, USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack are placed for easy access. The thickness of the phone stands at 7.5mm. The back of the phone has a curved design for better handling.

Camera

The resolution of the rear camera is 13 MP, which come with an LED. The aperture of the camera is f/1.9. The camera user interface has some useful options. Some of them are Auto pro which enables the user to control options like the white balance, ISO, and exposure manually, Panorama, Effects, and timer options.  The front camera of the device has a resolution of 5 MP, which has an 85-degree wide angle lens and an aperture of f/2.2. There is also an LED flashlight to brighten up selfie shots in low light conditions. Flashlights are very useful when the surrounding lighting conditions are poor. The front-facing camera of the device is average in the sense that it come with a proximity sensor but lacks features like the ambient light sensor and the notification LED which come with smartphones in the similar price range. Even when the screen is turned off, the home button can be pressed twice to open the camera, and the volume control button can be used as the camera shutter.

The HD recording feature on the phone also captures vibrant and sharp images. The Audio suffers a bit since  the device does not have a secondary microphone. Slow motion recording is also not supported by the smartphone.

OS

The operation System that powers the device is the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 which is covered by the Samsung UI on top.

Dimensions and Handling

The phone does not come with a premium build, but is easy to grip and is sturdy at the same time. The back cover has a nice finish and is made out of polycarbonate. The width of the device is 78.66mm, and the height of it is 152.4mm. The weight of the smartphone stands at 171g.

Storage Expansions and SIM slots

The device comes with two SIM microSIM slots and a micro SD card slot which can be used as an expandable storage up to 128 GB.

Image Quality

The image quality of the camera is satisfactory. When shots are taken in daylight, they sometimes end up over exposed or dull. The color accuracy of the captured images is good and images are sharp and crisp. The HDR shots on the camera are also good, but the exposure problem still persists in daylight. Low light shots are also good but creates some noise. The flashes provide good lighting in low light conditions to produce bright images.

Storage

The memory available in the Samsung Galaxy J5 is 1.5 GB, in which 1.37 GB is usable. The internal storage of the device is 16GB, in which 11.6 GB falls into the usable range. Compatible apps can be moved into the SD card in order to free up space on the main storage.

Battery Capacity

The battery capacity of the device stands at 3000 mAh. This enables the phone to last for a day. If the usage is less, the device is able to surpass a day easily.
