What is Deodorant
Deodorant is a substance you can use on your body to hide or prevent the smell of sweat. We usually apply deodorant on armpits. This is because this is an area that produces a heavy amount of sweat, resulting in body odour. It’s also important to know that sweat itself does not have a smell, but when it mixes with the bacteria in the skin, it leads to body odour. This is where deodorants come in handy – they hide or prevent body odour.
Antiperspirants are a special class of deodorants that prevent sweating itself, usually by blocking sweat glands. While antiperspirants provide you protection against sweat (prevent sweating) and body odour, normal deodorants simply provide protection against body odour. Moreover, there are different types of deodorants, like spray deodorants, stick deodorants, and roll-on deodorant.
What is Body Spray
Body spray is a perfume-like product. It contains fragrance extracts such as herbs, spices, and oils, mixed with a percentage of water and alcohol. Parfum, propane, isobutene, and butane are some common ingredients found in body sprays. Bodysprays can give you a fresh scent that lasts for a few hours. They are not as strong as traditional perfume – for a subtle fragrance, you can spray sparingly. If not, you can spray all over the body for a full effect.
Like perfumes and colognes, they can be applied to certain spots of the skin. You can also apply them to your clothes. However, body sprays do not prevent sweating or properly mask the odour of sweat like deodorants or antiperspirants. Therefore, we don’t usually apply body spray on the armpits. When compared to perfumes and colognes, body sprays are generally less expensive.
Similarities Between Deodorant and Body Spray
- Both can help to cover body odour, although their effectiveness may vary.
- You can use both deodorant and body spray at the same time.
