Difference Between Coach and Trainer

Main Difference – Coach vs Trainer

In sports and fitness, coach and trainer are two professionals who help us to reach our goals. The main difference between coach and trainer is that coach instructs, directs and trains a sports team or individual sportspeople to develop their skills whereas trainer helps people to reach their personal health and fitness targets.

Who is a Coach

In sports, a coach is a person who teaches and trains the members of a sports team and makes decisions about how the team should play during games. The term coach is also used to refer to a person who teaches and trains an athlete or performer.  The coach is directly involved in the instructing, direction and training a sports team or individual sportspeople. A coach can also be a teacher.

The main objective of instructing and directing these sportspeople is to help them to reach their full potential. A coach may use various methods to achieve this goal. Implementing training programs, analysing the progress and performances, motivating, counselling and creating a winning culture are some of the methods that are used by coaches. In addition to developing skills, coaches also develop strategies for sportsmen so that they reap the maximum benefits of the skills they already have.

Who is a Trainer

A trainer of a personal trainer is a fitness professional involved in exercise prescription and instruction. His main objective is to help his trainees achieve their health and fitness goals. Unlike in coaching, here the main aim is not to win, but to reach a personal target and maintain it.

A trainer’s duties involve instructing, training and motivating the trainees. They must also educate the trainees about healthy living habits and nutrients. A trainer’s job is more instructive than a coach’s job. A trainer should implement safe and effective fitness regimes and measure the client’s strengths and weaknesses with fitness assessments so that the trainees will attain their fitness goals.Main Difference - Coach vs Trainer
